Saturday 28 March 2015  The Spring Show

The Spring Show was held in the Village Hall on Saturday 28th March. Members put on a lovely display of Spring flowers even though the weather this year so far has been really cold and windy. Daffodil numbers were down on last year but the smaller Spring flowers, violas, primroses and hyacinths were plentiful. Hellebores have done particularly well in the cold conditions. We had 111 exhibits so there was plenty for members and visitors to see. Trophies were presented by the new Chairman Sally Adamson.

Everett Batty won The Davenport Trophy for most points in the Daffodil Classes, Susan Hall won the Best Tulip Cup and Isabel Cross won Best Daffodil Bloom and a Glass Trophy for most points in show. The children who designed an Easter Card, Hope Batty and Ethan Jackson won a plaque and an Easter Egg. Members and visitors then enjoyed the homemade refreshments.

Sheila Davenport our Chairman has decided to stand down and volunteers were asked to join the committee, Brian Cross of Bathley volunteered .Sheila has been the Chairman for many years and we are very grateful for all the work and guidance she has shown and I'm pleased to say  will remain on the committee, so we not be losing her. As a sign of our appreciation she was presented with a potted orchid.

A fter a committee meeting on Monday 9th March the new Chairman will be Sally Adamson, theTreasurer will be Verona Davies and Jan Davies will be the Secretary.

It is with great sadness we heard that Beryl Lamb had died suddenly. Beryl was secretary of the club for many years and she will be sadly missed, a condolence card was signed and delivered to the family. Several members attended the cremation at Grantham and a donation was made.

Members enjoyed a very enjoyable talk by Rodney Cousins entitled " Down your Way" a look at some of the crafts and skills that were practised in the area. He brought along a variety of tools and artifacts to illustrate, including tools used by coopers, barrelmaking for the very active brewerys in Newark, brickmaking moulds and still today we have osier beds, willow for basket making , grown in the surrounding fields of our village.

Members enjoyed homemade refreshments and a raffle.
