Norwell Nurseries
These were established in 1994 by Dr Andrew and Helen Ward and are located opposite the allotments at the end of Marston Cottages, usefully positioned to be only 5 mins walk from the Plough Inn! On the one acre site there is now an inspirational garden which attracts visitors from across the country and even further afield. The gardens which are still developing today hold more than 2,500 different species and cultivars, particularly herbaceous perennials, many rare and unusual. They also provide the stock material for the nursery which propagates over 1,000 different hardy flowering plants each year.
The gardens are split into many different areas to give ideas i.e. for colour themed beds, shady areas or dry sunny spots. The nurseries have the largest range in Europe of Hardy Chrysanthemums and they provide a mail order service both for within the UK and into Europe. They also specialise in cottage garden plants, choice woodlanders, especially Trilliums, grasses and bog garden plants. Coach parties and groups are welcome for day or evening visits by appointment.
Andrew organises the National Garden Scheme open afternoon when, on the last Sunday of June and the following Wednesday evening, several beautiful gardens around Norwell and the allotments are open to walk around.
